The Poem Living Within
Wake up early, you know, at first light
Force myself out of bed, blind as a bat,
Take a few steps as discreet as an elephant
My neighbors must love me as a resident...
I dress up, imagine I can be as sleek as a cat,
Prowling in the sunrise, my natural habitat.
I run, jump, huff and puff and pretend I can fly
Like a seagull in between the water and the sky.
I prey on those minutes the dew turns into gold,
I slither through the stars chasing away the cold,
Words of freedom prowl on my lips,
As I shed the human and wake my feral beast.
